Remarks:

Inspired by Maurice Quentin De La Tour’s « Portrait of the Marquise de Pompadour » (Louvre Museum). This painting is the first in the series untitled ‘The memory of painting’. The Marquise de Pompadour, patron of the arts in her days, is the godmother of this new chapter. The very Ruhlmannian art deco motif acts as a tattoo, a veil, a moucharabieh. It is applied according to a technique elaborated by the artist. In the background are hidden snowy mountains of New Zealand. Thus, there is a superposition of several times and spaces: the copy, the living experience of the artist, the one of the spectator.
