Coffee Table with Pekinese Dogs

Rectangular wood coffee table made of a tray and cubist feet entirely covered in buff colour lacquer. The belt of the top, ornamented with a double bulge furrow, encloses a polychrome lacquered table tray depicting three Pekinese dog. This table demonstrates by itself the virtuosity of the artist for the decorations integrated in his pieces of furniture.

Signed: « Jean Dunand » on the table top at the bottom right and numbered 214 below the table top.

A genius silversmith, lacquer, sculptor, the name of Jean Dunand is associated to the Decorative Arts.

Under the influence of Japanese lacquer living in France, Sugarawa, he became an exceptional lacquerer. In a simple and pure form, Jean Dunand highlights the art of lacquering, which he combines with magnificent work in the decorative arts.
