Remarks:

Giuseppe Besso is among the most eminent artists exhibiting at the Salon. After studying at the Academy of Fine-Arts in Florence, he opens his workshop in Volterra, where he stands out by his particular use of alabaster, marble, onyx or bronze. His work is characterized by its combining of materials as well as a junction between neo-classicism and Art Nouveau. He received a lot of commissions during his lifetime and his work was highly sought after, well beyond Italian borders. Today, his sculptures can be found in many collections from major museums such as the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersbourg. A large part of his pieces is also exhibited in the Ecomuseo dell’Alavastro in Volterra.
