Remarks:
This painting belongs to the series ‘Bathers’, a favorite theme to which artists, through the ages, from Titian to Matisse, passing by Ingres and Cézanne, confronted themselves. For Olivier Masmonteil, it is an opportunity to create a window, giving to the artist and to the spectator, a privileged place hidden from the Bathers’ gaze. Thus, in this painting, appear and disappear female bodies who seem to play to reveal themselves to the prying eyes. This series gave the possibility to Olivier Masmonteil to reintroduce the landscape in the painting and to dive back in the color’s work. Here, the scene takes place on the shores of the lake of the Château de Sédières, in Corrèze, region from which Olivier Masmonteil is from. Thus, the painter convenes landscapes of his childhood: the rivers and forests in which he grew, as the fantasy of the stories which are attached to them.
